Bean On Bar September

Support

One person reads these.
Write plainly.

There is no ticket system, no chatbot and no queue. Mail goes to the person who wrote the app. Most answers come back within two working days; if something is broken, saying which iPhone and which iOS version will usually save a round trip.

01 — Before you write

Most of it is here,
and the rest is Apple’s.

A few things are handled by Apple rather than by us, and writing to the right place is faster than writing to the wrong one.

Refunds go through Apple

We never receive your payment, so we cannot issue a refund. Apple handles it at reportaproblem.apple.com, under Apple’s terms. If the reason is something the app did wrong, tell us as well — not to reverse the charge, but so the fault gets fixed.

Restoring a purchase

Pro and Pro + Roaster are one-time purchases tied to your Apple ID. On a new device, sign in with the same Apple ID and use Restore purchases in Settings. Family Sharing is enabled, so a purchase covers your family group.

Getting your record out

Everything you have saved exports as JSON from Settings → Data, on the free tier, at any time. You do not need to ask us and you do not need Pro. If an export fails, that is a bug and we want to hear about it.

Deleting everything

Your coffee record lives on the device. Deleting the app removes the local copy. Any JSON export or iCloud backup you chose to make is separate and remains until you delete it. There is no account for us to close, because there was never one to open.

02 — Common problems

What usually goes wrong,
and what to do about it.

Written from what actually breaks rather than from what would be convenient to claim works.

The label read something wrong

Reading a bag happens on your device and it is not infallible — stacked or stylised roaster logos are the usual culprit, and a name split across two lines can land in the wrong field. Every field stays editable, and nothing is saved to your shelf until you have corrected it. If a particular bag reads badly, send a photograph of it: label layouts are the input the parser is tuned against, so a bad one is useful.

The Beanconqueror import missed something

The import can only read what Beanconqueror wrote into the JSON. If a field is not in the file, it cannot arrive. Imported values land unconfirmed on purpose, so you review them rather than inherit them. If something that is in your export did not come across, tell us — that is a bug, not a limitation, and we would rather fix it than document it. Your Beanconqueror install is untouched either way; keep the export file until you are sure.

Discover is empty where I live

Coverage is built roaster by roaster and is not global yet. An empty feed in your country means we have not indexed listings there, not that the feature is broken. Tell us where you are and which roasters you would want in it.

A listing is wrong, or should not be there

If you are a roaster or café and want your listings removed, write and they will be removed. No argument, no form. If a listing is merely wrong, tell us and it will be corrected or dropped — a feed that cannot be corrected is a feed that should not be published.

The watch app

Following a brew you started on the phone is free. Starting a brew from the watch itself is part of Pro. If the watch will not follow a brew at all, check that the phone and watch are paired and that Bean On Bar is installed on the watch, then write with what you saw.

A grind number looks wrong for my grinder

Grind translations are community-derived starting points, not manufacturer figures, and the app says so on the screen where it shows one. Trust your own dial-in over the number. If a mapping is badly off for a grinder you own, send the model and the setting that actually worked — that is how the table improves.

03 — What it runs on

iPhone and Apple Watch.
Nothing else, yet.

Stated so you can check before buying rather than after.

Requirements

iPhone running iOS 26 or later. The watch app requires watchOS 26 or later.

No Android, no iPad-specific version, no web app

There is no Android version planned. If you or the people you brew with are on Android, the switching page says so plainly and names what the alternative does better.

Accessibility

The app is built with Dynamic Type and VoiceOver in mind. If something is unreachable, unreadable at a larger text size, or unlabelled to VoiceOver, that is a defect — please report it with the setting you were using.

04 — Writing in

What to include,
so one reply is enough.

None of this is required. It just tends to turn three emails into one.

For a bug

Which iPhone, which iOS version, the app version from Settings, what you did, and what happened instead. A screenshot is worth more than a description of a screenshot.

For a label that read wrong

A photograph of the bag, taken the way you took it in the app.

For anything about your data

Say so explicitly. Because there is no account, we cannot look you up — there is nothing on our side to look up. Whatever you send is what we can see.
